Winners of the 2023 NI Primary Schools Annual Road Safety Quiz sponsored by CRASH Services crowned in sizzling Cookstown
Road Safe NI were delighted to host the return of the Northern Ireland Primary Schools Annual Road Safety Quiz this year! All Northern Ireland Primary Schools were invited to enter their local council heat of the Quiz, with each team consisting of four P7 pupils per school. All heats took place in January and February 2023. We were delighted to welcome so many schools to participate in the heats which took place in the 11 council areas across Northern Ireland. Two teams per council district then progressed to the regional finals sponsored by CRASH Services on 6th March 2023.
The Quiz Finals which took place in the Glenavon House Hotel, Cookstown was once again kindly sponsored by NI’s leading vehicle accident management company CRASH Services. Road Safe NI were delighted to also receive quiz sponsorship for the heats this year from various corporate sponsors: DRIVETECH, Wilson Nesbitt Solicitors, Oriel Developments Ltd, BUNZL, and the Mid Ulster Approved Driving Instructors Association who sponsored the Mid Ulster Heat in memory of their late colleague Mr Seamus Higgins, who devoted a lot of his life to road safety. The Quiz was also supported by a number of partner agencies such as local councils, PCSPs and the emergency services.
The table quiz covered both road safety and general knowledge questions. This helps ensure that important road safety awareness is delivered in an interesting way.
The quiz consisted of 7 rounds of 8 questions plus an extra round on road signs. Prizes were given to the top 3 teams at each Heat. Everyone involved took home a road safety certificate. The quiz questions will be available soon so that all pupils can take part in the quiz back in their own classrooms.
The Quiz final was a huge success and Road Safe NI are delighted to announce the following winners:
1st Prize: Steelstown Primary School
2nd Prize: Carrickmannon Primary School
3rd Prize: Grange Park Primary School
Jonathan McKeown, CEO at CRASH Services commented, “Starting road safety education at an early age can have a significant impact on children’s attitudes and behaviours towards road safety. This can help reduce the number of accidents and injuries on our roads. At CRASH we are passionate about playing our part in helping to promote road safety to all road users across NI. We are delighted to see the number of schools participating in this year’s quiz was so high coming out of the pandemic times. We congratulate the winners and all the children and teachers who represented their schools tonight and throughout the heats at the 2023 Primary School Road Safety Quiz.”
All the teams who worked really hard to achieve a place in the finals deserve credit. The children and teachers invested a lot of time and effort in learning about road safety and we hope these young road safety ambassadors continue to use their knowledge in spreading the many road safety messages to their families and peers. We look forward to welcoming even more primary schools next year.
